Roman and Williams designed the interiors for Locanda Verde, drawing on the vision of founders Stephen and Robin Alesch to honor Italy’s elegantly understated 1930s vernacular of glamour and refinement. Palazzo-style shutters, high ceilings, and integrated classical arches blend Italian classicism with 20th-century functionalism and rationalism, creating a space that feels both timeless and quietly modern.
The main dining room is defined by a palette of golden amber, plush orange, and velvet stripes. Multiple inset mirrors set in a variety of stones reflect the room’s light, while four massive chandeliers of silver-and-blown glass anchor the space. Uncluttered geometries and robust materials reinforce Locanda Verde’s Italy-focused ethos.
Murals are central to the environment. Dean Barger was commissioned to paint the walls of both the dining room and a small jewel-like bar, composing tableaux of horses and Cubist and Expressionist elements inspired by the Portuguese modernist painter Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso. These works are complemented by Expressionist paintings and drawings by Robert De Niro, Sr., adding another artistic layer to the restaurant’s richly composed interior.
