LE COUCOU

New York

For Le Coucou, Roman and Williams crafted an interior that respectfully contrasts the clean
Scandinavian lines of its hotel setting. The design strips back decades of renovation to
reveal raw brick and concrete bones, then layers materiality that mirrors the purity of Chef
Daniel Rose's cuisine.

A signature sense of ease begins at the Howard Street entrance, framed by custom planters
and a playful neon sign. Within, a "box-within-a-box" dining room is created using
magnificent triple-hung glass windows, establishing a secondary façade and an experience
of permeable boundaries.

Custom pewtered-steel chandeliers with hand-blown glass shades hang from the exposed
concrete ceiling. Their light complements custom cast-glass sconces mounted on
whitewashed brick, where layers of historical paint add texture.

Blue-gray mohair banquettes line the perimeter, paired with reinterpreted 1925 Thonet
chairs in olive green velvet. Stained white oak tables with linen cloths complete the canvas
for culinary presentation.
