Sea Ranch serves as both personal retreat and laboratory for Roman and Williams
Principals Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch. Rather than a full renovation, they
transformed a modest 1950s structure through focused architectural gestures and
layered decoration.
Key moves—removing drywall, installing new wood windows and doors, adding signature
tambour walls—fundamentally altered the property's spirit. The interior balances
indulgent luxury with laidback ease: a Danish buffalo leather sofa for post-surf naps, a
rosewood Sergio Rodrigues table set for dinner parties, personal artifacts like a Banque de
France desk holding a hippopotamus skull.
The house embraces an unstudied atmosphere where sand is welcomed and evenings are
lit by candlelight and fire pits. High design and relaxed living coexist.
